American Society for Bone and Mineral Research: The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) is a professional, scientific and medical society established to bring together clinical and experimental scientists involved in the study of bone and mineral metabolism. While the site is directed at medical professionals, it does have interesting (although very technical) abstracts from their monthly magazine, The Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.
International Osteoporosis Foundation: IOF's Mission:
Is to increase awareness and understanding of osteoporosis and
to motivate people to take action to prevent, diagnose and treat osteoporosis. Further they support national osteoporosis societies in order to maximize their effectiveness. The site provides good consumer information and is international in scope.
International Society for Clinical Densitomerty: This site is focused more on healthcare professionals, but it does have some very good consumer information. The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) was established as a nonprofit professional medical society to enhance knowledge about bone densitometry for healthcare professionals and the public; to
provide certification and continuing education in the field of bone densitometry; to increase public awareness and access to bone densitometry; and to support clinical advances in the field of bone densitometry.
National Institutes of Health, Osteoporosis and Related Bone Diseases-National Resource Center: U.S. Government site on osteoporosis. Good information basic consumer if you keep digging. Not easy to navigate. Also has clinical trial information on this page.
Osteoporosis Canada: Provides good information and community resources and support groups for Canadians.
Osteoporosis Foundation: The site states its mission as: to prevent osteoporosis and related fractures, to promote lifelong bone health, to help improve the lives of those affected by osteoporosis and to find a cure through programs of awareness, advocacy, public and health professional education and research. The site is written for consumers with good basic information.
