The New Look for Summer

The New Neturals

We all remember the dark brown streaky contours of the late '80s. Well, you can keep them in the cosmetics attic. Contours are back in a very bold, matte and subtle way. Blush has shifted into neutral for summer, and a beige blush in your makeup arsenal is a must. Swept over cheekbones and the contours of the cheeks, it balances bold eyes and lips. The quiet shade also adds depth to more understated makeup. The most important thing to know about beige blush is that it prevent a neutral look from appearing flat.

Matte is Back

Even pink lip color manages to shake up its image. Get ready to swap out your usual soft girl-next-door glosses for cool pinks and matte textures. Whether pale or vibrant, mattes give off a hint of attitude and finish off the summer look with flare.

What I like: Clé de Peau lipsticks in #19 and #20. Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Roman Holiday, Chanel Hydrabase Lipstick Aura and Aqualumiere Colour Lipshine #73 Stresa.

Get Glowing in Seconds

To get that great glowing look, apply tinted moisturizer and concealer where needed. Brush bronzer over your forehead, cheekbones, the bridge of your nose and the center of your neck. Rub a rosy cream on lips and cheeks. Then rim the top of your lids with brown or navy liner. This will accent your eyes without shadow. The look is never overdone, yet remarkably finished.

What I like: For a tinted moisturizer, there is none better than Clé de Peau. Same for concealer. Underneath both, for anyone over 35, the H-Serum from 3LAB will make the tint glide on and the make the skin look luminous while never looking makeupy. Your sunscreen is taken care in the tinted moisturizer. It has a 24 SPF.

It is a good time for bronzers. Always remember to stay closer to beige than orange. Some of my favorites are, Chanel, YSL and Vincent Longo. The new lip pencils from Shiseido can be used like a lip tint and look so fashion forward without the heavy look of a lot of lipsticks on the market. Some of my favorite eye pencils are black jade and blue jean from Chanel.

Gold Rush

For daytime, metallic should look healthy and glowing, not disco and glittery. Add a thin stroke of dark brown pencil to the upper lash line, extending it out slightly at the upper corner. This makes it look intense without looking too made up. Finish with mascara and a neutral blush.

The Lips Have It

The one must have for every woman this summer is a creamy pink-beige lipstick. Some of my favorites are Kanebo #12, YSL #132 and Clé de Peau has many tones and hues to choose from. It might take you a second to get used to the more lighter lip, but it is truly age defying. Also for those who dare, the Vincent Longo gold powder can be used on face and body and look so sophisticated and bold. This look works on most women and enhances but never outshines their features.
