Sherry's Makeover from Beauty to Diet and Fitness

Our makeover mom, Sherry Kas, embarked on a five-month personal improvement journey from the inside (nutrition and fitness plan that resulted in a 22-pound weight loss) to the outside (a new look that included laser, Botox, Restalyn, new hair color, hairstyle and makeup). Sherry looks back at her journey and how it made a difference in her life. Find out how you can apply for our next makeover promotion, Back to You.

Beauty

This changed how I view myself. I started feeling better about myself and prettier. I didn't realize that improving my teeth, skin and hair would actually affect my attitude and motivation in such a positive way. I started carving out more time for me after this. My recommendation to any woman is to do small things each day to make yourself feel like a woman, not just a mom or a worker.

Diet

Changing my diet had an immediate and profound affect on me. Just by eliminating diet colas and, believe it not, eating more often with smaller portions of proteins and real food every two to three hours, I started feeling fabulous. I had more energy and I was losing weight. I never would have believed this was possible. I lost 10 pounds in two weeks. I have lost 22 pounds total in eight weeks.

Getting Fit

The key for me here was to set a regular time that I would exercise each day for five out of seven days a week. I knew I couldn't commit to exercising every day. I also knew that I could only squeeze 60 minutes a day for me. Sometimes I had to break this down into two 30-minute increments. I was exhausted the first two weeks. No kidding. But I didn't give up and I kept at it. Pretty soon all the exercises got easier.

My Advice:

1. Set a regular reoccurring time to exercise.

2. Don't forget that every day you exercise brings you closer to your goal.

3. Don't expect miracles in the first few weeks. You will be sore and tired and maybe grumpy, but that will pass. These feelings will be replaced by strength.

By the Numbers: Sherry's Makeover versus a Budget Makeover

Sherry after a cut and style by Matthew Shields
Sherry K. embarked on a six-month makeover plan that started in late November 2007. Sponsored by SmartNow, she had her teeth whitened professionally by Dr. Molly Newlon, had her skin smoothed by a laser, had Botox® and Restalyne, had her makeup done by Patrick Foley at Barney's and her cosmetics replaced, had her hair cut and colored by Matthew Shields and Negin Zand, two of the best in the West (and hairdressers to the stars). Sherry has also been working with a professional nutritionist/dietitian, Derek Johnson, and started a fitness regime coached by a word-class athletes Bonnie Stoll and Diana Nyad. She has experienced one of our Total Makeovers, and if you read her blogs you know that she is one happy, dedicated woman. Sherry has lost more than 20 pounds, has more energy, is stronger, loves her new look and is dedicated to continuing to improve herself inside and out. Her family is also eating better and getting fit right along with her. And, she’s not done yet. Sherry is a true inspiration. I feel a bit guilty sitting here eating chocolate-covered raisins and typing her story. I need to get on with it, too. But my budget is tight, so I started to look for cheaper versions of Sherry’s deluxe total makeover.
